You are invited to an evening of playing, smiling, and growing together with Jim Boneau, LIOS graduation from 2006, as he leads an interactive drum circle experience. This is not an after-hours, hippy fueled drum free-for-all. It’s a facilitated, curated, improvisational and intentional exploration of body, mind, spirit, relationships, and emotions through group drumming.
Facilitated improvisational rhythm experiences have been identified as one of the most accessible and neurologically powerful forms of experiential development. Accessible because no formal music training is required to start. Neurologically powerful because of the new neuropathways individuals develop while playing music with others. Mix those elements with a group looking to connect or innovate, and you have the ingredients necessary to tap into magic.
For over 20 years, Jim has been a leader in the global drum circle facilitation movement. Wellness practitioners, teachers, organizational development professionals, social workers, and leaders from a variety of fields have found the power of drumming to support individual and group goals. As a part of this session, Jim will share the latest science on the neuro impact of drumming, along with some stories he’s seen in his work drumming with groups. But nothing can communicate the impact better than the experience itself, so we will drum together too. Jim will bring drums for everyone. Feel free to dust off your djembe, conga, shakers, and bells and bring them too if you have one.
To learn more about drum circles, check out the documentary film, We All Need to Drum (weneedtodrum.com). Jim and his book, The Rumble Zone: Leadership Strategies in the Rough & Tumble of Change, are featured in the film, along with other drum circle facilitators from around the world.
Join us June 8th, 2023 starting at 6:00 pm PST. The event is 90 minutes long.
