LIOS’s commitment to creative leadership education extends beyond the classroom walls, into the community at large. Through a variety of special events, we engage in an ongoing dialogue with our alumni, faculty, friends, colleagues and members of the general public about leadership and diversity issues affecting individuals, communities, organizations, our country, the world.
LIOS Wise Questions
LIOS offers Wise Questions, a forum for provocative conversation and sustaining community, three to four times a year. Topics for Wise Questions vary, as they are drawn from current events, issues and ideas. Led by LIOS faculty and guest facilitators, the forums encourage enthusiastic discussion in a climate of courtesy and civility.
When ground-breaking novelist Gertrude Stein was on her deathbed, a friend, hoping for insight into the meaning of life, solemnly asked her, “What’s the answer?” Sharp-witted to the end, Stein supposedly snapped, “What’s the question?” Apocryphal or not, this story illustrates how crucial it is to ask the right question—with clarity and intelligence—if you hope to discover the right answer.
LIOS Book Club
The LIOS Book Club offers the opportunity to discuss in depth and in good company a ground-breaking book about leadership and other timely issues. Generally, the discussions are facilitated by Institute and visiting faculty, therapists, writers and other thinking, articulate folk.
