LIOS and Saybrook
Announce Affiliation

Leadership Institute of Seattle takes pleasure in announcing its affiliation with Saybrook Graduate School and Research Center, a regionally accredited institution located in San Francisco, California.  This planned affiliation will make it possible for LIOS students to continue to receive degrees from a regionally accredited school. Students will pursue Master of Arts degrees in Psychology with a specialization in Systems Counseling, or in Organizational Systems with a specialization in Leadership and Organization Development. Matriculating students will receive MA degrees through Saybrook Graduate School.

Saybrook plans to admit and enroll students for the programs under Saybrook’s accreditation which will be taught by LIOS faculty that will be employed by Saybrook.  Saybrook has submitted a request to the regional accrediting body for a campus in Seattle and is submitting an application to the Washington State authorities to have an operation in Seattle.

Saybrook’s mission is graduate education for a humane and sustainable future.  Residential Conferences for LIOS program students enrolled in Saybrook’s Psychology and Organizational Systems Degrees will be held in the Seattle, Washington area. As an accredited school, federal financial aid is available to all Saybrook students with demonstrated need.

The Leadership Institute of Seattle is nearing its 40th anniversary and the recent affiliation process has highlighted the resilience, dedication and strength of the LIOS community as well as the respect we have earned from others for our work in the world.  This new affiliation is a great opportunity to acknowledge where we have been, to be grateful for our continued presence and our future growth in the world of leadership education, and to partner with an institution that shares our commitment to a healthy, just and sustainable world – a world in which all life can thrive.  Look for more details regarding the rationale behind our choice of Saybrook Graduate School and the exciting nature of the affiliation in the recently released President’s message in which also appears in Items of Interest.  Below is a brief description of Saybrook Graduate School and a link to their website.

Thank you all for your patience and support during this challenging and rewarding time.

Saybrook's mission is to address 21st century needs by educating leaders to bring humanistic principles to key elements of our world – educational reform, healthcare, the environment, vulnerable populations of our society, sustainable business development and practice and to affect positive change through that leadership.

Saybrook's vision for 21st century learning is one rooted in the values of the School's humanistic lineage, fundamentally recognizing that each individual has a unique role and influence in the world realized through one's life work. Saybrook inspires students to discover their influence and nurtures its development. At the core of Saybrook's humanistic principles is an appreciation of the infinite potential of human beings to grow and change in meaningful ways, regardless of the challenges they face.

Today, this humanistic vision is more relevant – and more needed – than ever, as we are living in a time in which caring for others and the planet must be addressed with innovation and long-term commitment. As custodians of this vision, we believe it is incumbent upon us to craft the next expression of these humanistic values by educating a new generation of scholar-practitioners who will make significant contributions to 21st century global community.
